Review of Anatomy of a Murder (1959) by David K — 19 Nov 2007
I have never liked Jimmy Stewart. There, I said it. Damn you if you think this makes me un-American.
I can put up with his presence in Film as he's in several good ones, and is OK (to me) in a few. Perhaps my initial dislike led me away from movies in which he plays a character unlike the same usual one I perceive in his movies.
I LIKE JIMMY STEWART in "Anatomy of a Murder," and I like the movie very much. He plays a private eye on a murder case, and makes his character very interesting and fun and different from the Jimmy Stewart I've seen. He's wry and sly and a tough-minded character.
The film is shot with some beautiful Black and White cinematography. It has Lee Remick as Stewart's long suffering legal assistant in a great role. Has a great Ben Gazzara in it, who I remember from reruns of his hit 60's TV show, "Run For Your Life." Jimmy even gets to play a live duet on piano with Duke Ellington in a cameo.
Lots of familiar and great supporting cast, interesting story (especially considering the release date,) and I like Jimmy Stewart! TMJ sez check it out.
