Review of Anatomy of a Murder (1959) by Gavin S — 22 May 2013
A great dourtroom/trial film, with one of my favourites, Jimmy Stewart. This film was one of the first to have "frank discussions of sexuality" at the time, which now seem very tame for what we see in courtroom dramas today.
Also features great support from a young George C. Scott and a young Ben Gazzara. Also one of the first which dealt with things in shades of grey and not black and white legal/moral right and wrong. Great direction by Otto Preminger, who keeps the pace moving well even though the film approaches 3 hrs.
..however you don't notice. The back and forth between Stewart and Scott in the courtroom is terrific stuff. Well worth a watch, and not a film that gets nearly enough love.
