Review of Anatomy of a Murder (1959) by Brian S — 21 Apr 2017
An unusual but still entertaining court drama. the pace of the story is pretty relaxed with no real heightened intensity, anxiety, or desperation, but it plays out well enough. the trial case itself contains a plethora of unanswered ambiguities, which contributes to the film's brilliance.
jimmy stewart shines as always as the "humble country lawyer" who may or may not have done the right thing. the great fun of this movie is preminger leaves it to the audience to be their own jury, since their is no real clear-cut truth.
a scandalously frank milestone in writing and moviemaking for 1959.
