Review of Anaconda (1954) by Leesa M — 22 Jan 2012
Though this film has a star filled cast, it will forever be nothing more than a high budget b-movie. It's also probably a guilty pleasure of many.
The action and the snake FX are pretty good even if the CG is a bit dated and the practical snake wasn't always great.
Where this film falls is in the story. The journey to find a lost tribe makes sense. Where it loses me is the "plan" to get this team to essentially "help" capture a live snake. Too many things had to happen that weren't in anyones control in order to make the end result work and the bad guys were never made out to be stupid... just overzealous in their ambition so the plan didn't seem to fit.
Not nearly as good as Jaws but it's still fun to watch. I just wish Eric Stoltz had a bigger role as it seems this movie is mostly about J-Lo, Ice Cube and Jon Voight (with a weird accent).
