Review of Anaconda (1954) by Baurushan J — 26 Jun 2012
Anaconda is a newly stylized, original idea-ed, creepy horror film that makes us aware of the variety of wildlife around us. The story is about a group of filmmakers who are filming a documentary based on their assignment so they head off into the Amazon rainforest to film a mysterious tribe known as "The People Of The Mists" and little do they know that they are being followed by a man-eating ten-foot long snake known as the anaconda.
The film gives us some strong character trades staring off with Jennifer Lopez as the crew leader, Ice Cube as the camera man, Owen Wilson as the sound recorder, Eric Stoltz as an anthropologist, Karl Wuhrer as the production manager and Jonathan Hyde as the host.
along the way they pick up a stranger played by Jon Voight who is setting up the crew so that he can catch the snake himself vengefully because his friends were eaten by the anaconda in the past. And that's this movie: It's dark, creepy, squelchy and slithery.
If you want to see a movie that has unique ideas, has a creative monster AND for the first time does not kill off a black guy at all, than this is your movie. I mean i'm being honest; Ice Cube is literally the only black guy in this movie and he survives till the very end, how cool is that? Anaconda gets a 9.
7/10.
