Review of An Unfinished Life (2005) by Amanda W — 17 May 2008
The title alone gives away that it's sappy, and it is most certainly that. If you have to watch a feel-good film, this is hardly the worst one you could watch, but there are a lot better ones too. Certain elements work better than others.
J-Lo doesn't belong here. She can act, but she sticks out like a sore thumb and her daughter doesn't share a single similar physical characteristic. Morgan Freeman is easily the best and most interesting character here by far.
Redford's character was far too corny as the grumpy-but-misunderstood old man. Josh Lucas's character seems to be a plot-hole filler. And Lopez, who is set-up to be the main character, ends up being left out a LOT of the time.
So honestly, skip it.
