Review of An Honest Liar (2014) by Colleen P — 20 Jul 2015
This documentary seems to imply that the deception at the center of James Randi's life over the past 20-30 years is similar to the kinds of psychic tricks he's worked to debunk. Its billing almost implies that he's a hypocrite.
But the two kinds of deception aren't at all similar. He tries to educate people so they're less likely to be conned. That doesn't mean he should (or that it would even be good to) tell the complete truth 100% the time.
So I find the documentary about an advocate for truth, who lied about something, to be somewhat misleading. Regardless, it's a good documentary for a glimpse of his back story and life (and it can certainly spark some discussions about what is truth/deception).
