Review of An Education (2009) by Jesse B — 12 Dec 2010
An Education is a four [out of five] star movie with a two star ending. The performances are all around spectacular and subdued. It is only in the final moments of the film where we are spoon fed a happy ending with a Rocky-like training sequence which derails this otherwise disturbingly wonderful film.
Yes, I do understand that life goes on, and sometimes can be better than before the trauma, but please spare me the tried and cliched victory march where a false sense of suspense ensues when we know from all of our movie watching experiences of old that there is only one way in which this film can go.
Don't get me wrong, I love a happy ending. Like anything, the ending is earned and never a given.
