Review of An Education (2009) by Scott T — 19 Dec 2010
This movie surprised me, Carey Mulligan is simply outstanding in this. The story is a coming of age tale and a slightly unusual one as well. Mulligan's sixteen year old character dreams of going to Oxford and lives a dreary life until she meets Sarsgaard.
Sarsgaard then whisks her off her feet to show her the world that she dreams of seeing, theatre, music, art, etc. It all gets a bit disturbing as they fall in love but if you can see past that (there is nothing legally wrong with the age difference afterall in the story) this is a great story with brilliant performances (Alfred Molina and Rosamund Pike are great especially in a supporting roles) and accompained by a fantastic script from About a Boy and Fever Pitch author Nick Hornby.
If you like watching different things, definitely give it a watch and see a star in the making.
