Review of An Education (2009) by Joey K — 16 May 2011
An Education is refreshingly original movie about growing up. Though the basic coming-of-age tale is anything but new, the means by which it's told in An Education is unique. It's probably one of the most sophisticated films I've seen recently that's able to restrict itself to the PG-13 rating.
The screenplay is clever. The actors are all superb. Lone Scherfig is wonderful behind the camera. The result is a well-crafted drama that isn't afraid to tackle "mature thematic material." Films of this caliber don't grow on trees.
