Review of An Education (2009) by Kye Kye C — 23 May 2011
I can only describe "An Education" like this, it's clever, funny, dramatic, and mostly heartbreaking, and yet uplifting. It's a story about a naive girl who thinks she knows what she wants, but when she gets it, she comes to realize that she got nothing in the end. All she got was a broken heart.
"An Education" is marvelously carried by two things, one of them a person. 1-The script, or the idea/meaning of the film. This film shows us that sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is too let go of everything, but too always hang onto the rope that will pull you back from the ledge of nothing and insanity.
2-The fantastic performance of Carrey Mulligan. Mulligan delivers with supreme results! She is pitch perfect and good thing because she is quite litteraly in every frame of the film. Te whole 1hr. 40 minutes rest on her shoulders. And she carrys the film to the top of the world, then too only let in chrash down on her.
Just when you think you know where this film is going to end up. It turns a corner and smaskes into a brick wall!
"An Education" made me laugh, made me happy, made me wonder, made me dream, and made me cry. This film is NOT too be missed by anyone.
