Review of An Education (2009) by Carolyn G — 16 Jul 2011
Love love loved it! Carey Mulligan is simply adorable. I didn't know much about her prior to seeing this and now I'm hooked. I've always had a thing for Peter Sarsgaard and he turns in yet another great performance in this.
The only quibble I have with his casting is that he's too darned handsome to play David/Simon (who was not attractive in real life). Also, I felt that after having read the book, the movie (adapted from the Lynn Barber magazine article and not her book) exaggerated "Jenny's" affection for "David".
The relationship, for her, was never about love. Also, it would have been nice if they'd included the fact that "David" did get in touch with her again while she was at Oxford, showing up and offering to take her to dinner (which she shows up for with her boyfriend).
These quibbles aside, the movie was delightful and I really enjoyed it!
