Review of An Education (2009) by Chris H — 15 Aug 2011
Really expertly done. Mulligan is simply one of my favourite actresses ever in terms of her acting ability. The range she gets to play in this role is welcome.
It's a great snapshot of this period, a searingly honest look at the mundanity of the school then job then married notion. And at potential the redundancy of having an education, even way back then, whereas now we're seeing educations become redundant due to too many students having them, etc. I always like a film that challenges society, and this certainly strays into doing that quite a bit.
The story of her meeting an elder man then it all falling apart and her returning to her education is interesting enough.
