Review of An Awfully Big Adventure (1995) by Andrew W — 07 Jun 2008
Alan Rickkman did wonderfully, as always. While it was a somewhat bizarre movie, it was very affecting. Hugh Grant was terrific as Meredith-- his sarcasm was sharp and his character was intriguing. The movie itself was very thought-provokng-- you'd probably be utterly bored by it just looking at surface events, but if you look deeper, it's really quite amazing.
Stella was unremarkable but I suppose played her role well. My favorite part was Alan as Hook-- now that's something I'd want to see in real life!
So, bottom line: It's pretty good, while bizarre and not very much at all a comedy. Quite confusing at parts, too. But if you're an AR fan, it's a must-see!
