Review of An American Werewolf in London (1981) by Dustin P — 10 Sep 2010
This review is of the my all-time favorite werewolf film.
I've seen plenty of werewolf movies over the years and none of them can come close to this one.
Now here's a bit about the story.
Two best friends David Kessler & Jack Goodman played by David Naughton & Griffin Dunne are american backpackers touring around europe. They are warned by the locals to beware of the moon, stick to the road & stay clear of the moors especially at night.
They accidently stray onto the moors & they are attacked by a huge werewolf. Jack is killed & David is only wounded because the locals shoot & kill the werewolf & thats when the shit hits the fan so to speak.
The first time I saw An American Werewolf in London it scared the shit out of me & made me laugh out loud. This film took me totally by suprise because I didnt expect to have such a damn great time watching a horror movie.
Although I've never felt the same about the subway again after seeing this movie.
It is amazing to me what Rick Baker was able to do in 1981. He really did a brilliant job with the make up & creature effects. Also his design of the werewolf is so terrifing. To this day it still is the most scariest looking werewolf ever on film also its howl is so bonechilling!!
I love the way John Landis shot the transformation scene. It was absolutely amazing. Its still the best. He didnt try to hide anything by shooting it in the shadows but he shot it in full hard light so we could see everything!!
Here's a hilarious line from the film that I love.
"Have u ever talked to a corpse? Its boring.".
If u havent seen this film then do yourself a huge favor and go get it & have a bloody good time!!
