Review of An American Tail (1986) by Ken S — 15 Apr 2012
In the Disney black hole that was the 1980s, animated feature films seemed dead...but then Steven Spielberg and Don Bluth came out with the most successful non-Disney animated feature up to that time, and introduced a great new animated friend: Fievel Mousekewitz.
The first Fievel film is actually "An American Tail" though it seems most people I know think only of Fievel Goes West. This is actually, in my opinion, the better of the two films. Virtually better than almost all the efforts of Disney from the 70s and 80s, with good songs and a solid story that isn't afraid to hit emotions and drama, instead of just playing it all for laughs.
Fantastic animated film from my childhood.
