Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Joseph Y — 10 Dec 2009
Gene Kelly's effortless choreography and some truly stunning set pieces take this by-the-numbers romance and make it something truly special. Its Academy Awards were well deserved. Watch for the Pièce de résistance, the final twenty minutes, played out as a series of surreal, sublime ballets with sets that have to be seen to be believed.
