Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Monsieur R — 20 Sep 2010
Best Picture among other Oscar awards, this film defined a genre for me. Kelly is his unbeatable best in a story of a love triangle of sorts. Set in Paris with a great soundtrack, goes from drama to light comedy in an instant.
Although this one took me many years to watch all the way through, it captured my attention entirely tonight in the New Year 2010.
Oscar Levant is priceless when he realizes that Kelly and another is in love with the same gal, Leslie Caron.
Call me old fashioned, but we won't see the likes of this creative and wonderful filming again. And guess what, no foul language, nothing explodes, no blood is spilt. A miracle!
