Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Susie L — 14 Aug 2011
While this movie is not close to being terrible, it also isn't close to being the "must see classic," as I've often heard it described. The music from Gershwin is fantastic, Gene and Leslie are very well matched as dancers, but her acting isn't quite up to par.
Then there is the extended "modern ballet" sequence that Gene Kelly so loved to add to his films. This one didn't annoy me half as much as the one from "Singin' In the Rain" but it did go on too long.
