Although the resolution comes a little too easily, the 110 minutes that precede the all-too-brief final scene are packed with a dozen or so excellent musical sequences, showcasing an excellent cast in a charming and nostalgic if rather straightforward story.
More than half a century later, the climactic ballet is still a benchmark for dance on film, in its design, execution, choreography and performance.
