Review of An American Haunting (2005) by Robert T — 07 Mar 2008
Initial responses for this film was high because of the film's exciting advertisements and the film's rich background which gave the audience a history on the event. But sadly, after viewing the film, I should have never seen it.
I was a little confused on what the film was trying to share with the audience. The film's promotion dubbed it as the first killing by a ghost, but I didn't really see it that way. The film stayed mostly away with the poltergeist theme, and instead, added sexual undertones to it, which in my opinion, was bad.
So the girl's dad was molesting her? What does that have anything to do with the film's title? Plus, the switch between the 19th and the 21st Century was lacking, and should have been more consistent.
Though there were some scary and intense moments, it wasn't enough to bring the film back from the boredom I had from the start. Overall, pass this film by all means. There are other worthy "ghost" films out there that has is both scary and compelling.
