Review of An American Crime (2007) by Devan B — 22 Aug 2008
Extremely accurate portrayal of the pseudo-southern lifestyle in the mid-60's. A haunting tale that reminds us all of the desperation that monetary matters can cause, the fragility of the human mind, and the social phenomena of "just doing what you're told".
Much like Requiem for a Dream, you feel a sympathy for the characters that reaches a depth almost unknown. And to know there were even worse things done to the poor soul who lost her life in reality that the film didn't depict, it just makes it all the more unsettling.
