Review of An American Crime (2007) by Sv G — 05 Mar 2009
Ellen Page - simply amazing in this very difficult role. True story about a young teen in Indiana that was in the care of a woman with children of her own while her parents traveled with a carnival. This is tragic and hard to watch.
The woman her parents put her and her sister in care of was cruel and sadistic and banished the teen to her basement where she was tortured and beaten on a daily basis. Everyone in town, the neighbors and even the pastor knew or had an inkling of what was going on which makes this even more incredible.
The courtroom scenes are word for word from the actual courtroom transcripts. Though hard to watch at times this true story brings across the point strongly just why it's important to step up and get involved.
