Review of An American Crime (2007) by Miguel R — 01 May 2009
I thought this movie was terrible. I mean i'm all for brutal, violent, and grim plots. especially when it's based on a true story.
But there's hardly any point to this. they never really gave any explanation as to the "whys" - I mean obviously the bitch is insane, but why? what made her that way? i'm sure there was something in the real events that explained this, and even if there wasn't, take some artistic freedom get it done.
This is just torture for torture's sake. it's an unnecessary celebration of torture. and even on that note, the scenes could've been a lot scarier. a good example of this would be the scenes in "changeling". overall, this movie was just underwhelming. it's a shame since, it could've been a fantastic movie. the premise has everything going for it, but the execution was just bland.
Unless you have a torture fetish, or have something against ellen page, steer clear of this movie.
There are far better movies like this, that offer at least some kind of cathartic release.
