Review of An American Crime (2007) by Rini N — 15 Sep 2011
While the title, "An American Crime" is a bit misleading, it doesn't take away from the fantastic performances in this heartbreaking movie. The torture scenes were so powerful, I couldn't bear to look at the screen.
I didn't quite understand Gertrude's reasoning for snapping, whether she was on drugs, or mentally unstable, I thought they could've done a bit more to explain that. But I thought overall, this movie was great and serves a good purpose to show its watchers how extreme life for others can be.
I feel that at least in my community, we don't tend to look much into the lives of our fellow neighbors simply because we're so caught up in our own lives. I think this movie could open eyes and possibly make a difference in someone and make them a bit more considerate of their neighbors.
You never know what goes on behind closed doors. And it shouldn't have to wait until someone dies for people to realize/care about that.
