Review of An American Carol (2008) by Josiah M — 04 Oct 2008
*WARNING: SPOILERS. READ ONLY IF YOU"RE A LIBERAL*.
As one would expect from Zucker, there are laughs abound, unfortunately only in sporadic areas. However, the parts that are funny are REALLY FUNNY! What really kills the film is the lack of understanding of us liberals. I just couldn't stomach it.
The best highlights:
1. The beginning when we see a terrorist cell in which everyone has the same name and the suicide bomber they send out has a one way bicycle.
2. During a trip to a college of the past, the ghost of General Patton points out that students who participate in rallies, simply repeat phrases that they don't fully understand.
3. Another scene with the ghost of General Patton involves an attack by the ACLU, who are depicted as zombies. In one scene they are seen tearing down the ten commandments in a courthouse. In another, they are seen preventing an illegal search of two terrorists bombing the subway. On top of this we are given subtitles of what the zombies are saying.
4. At the end we are treated to a timer that makes a sound like the clock from 24.
5. Bill O'reily makes a funny cameo. In one seen while Michael Malone is being slapped by the spirits, he is also slapped by O'reily. Malone states that O'reily's not a spirit, to which he replies, "I knoe, I just like slapping you.".
6. During a mock Bill O'reily show with Malone, a mock Rosie O'Donnell is also there with a documentary on Christian extremists, which is by far the centerpiece of the film. Hopefully a video will pop up on You Tube eventually.
