Review of An American Carol (2008) by Aaron T — 01 Feb 2009
Former liberal turned Republican activist David Zucker tries to satarize Michael Moore in particular and liberalism in the USA in general. Perhaps he thought it might save McCain's campaign. Cast includes a number of former liberals who jumped on the Bush bandwagon a few years back (like James Woods) or who converted to the Republican cause during Gingrich's "Contract on America" (like Dennis Hopper) or who have always been Republicans (like Kelsey Grammer). They are all entitled to their opinions, and all are talented artists, but this film isn't at all funny or even that good. The vitriol that Zucker has towards his subjest matter is so great, it overwhelms any humour that might be found.
Zucker should stick to farce, political satire is not his forte. Oh wait, his last farcical films sucked too. Zucker should just go away.
