Review of An American Carol (2008) by Joshua M — 14 Mar 2009
A brilliant and funny feel-good flick that boasts a high profile cast, roasts Michael Moore, and toasts the good ol' U.S. of A. Starring the younger brother of the late Chris Farley - Kevin Farley, who nearly channels his brother to perfection - this film could easily be described as right wing propoganda.
The film is a riff on Dicken's legendary tale, taking place in modern day America and replacing Scrooge with a parody of Michael Moore (that could be an oxymoron), who is visited by three spirits of American history.
It is politically conservative, pro-American, and is merciless in its assault on leftist values (or lack thereof). All I can say is - it's about time. Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, Jon Voight, and Leslie Neilson also appear throughout the film, and each gives a memorable performance.
Grammer's General Patton is great, Hopper is brilliant as a gun-toting judge, and Voight gives a truly notable performance as George Washington. It finally acknowledges the absurdities going down in our universities (an event I witness firsthand every day) and is a fine demonstration of what true patriotism should be.
It has, of course, been blasted by the liberal media - which means David Zucker must have done something right. Smart, well written, and funny to boot, this is a long overdue answer to the propogandist garbage the left has been spewing for eight years.
