Review of An American Carol (2008) by Gil P — 06 Oct 2008
Judging from the angry attacks on this movie by the "real" critics, I'd say that "American Carol" hit the nail on the head. This movie is exactly what it's advertised to be. It is a pro-American, anti-liberal slap-stick comedy. That's all. It it meant to be high comedy? No. Is it a big, barbecue sauce covered finger poke in the eye of every doom and gloom liberal? You're darned tootin'!
Yeah, like every "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun" type of flick, this movie is filled with one-liners & prat falls that are pretty funny but can get to be tedious by mid-film. What saves the movie is Farley's dead-on MM role and positive message that gives everyone who's sick and tired of the left's constant assault on American values & tradition a feeling of hope as well as satisfaction that someone's finally fighting the intolerant monolith that is today's Hollywood.
P.S. It's interesting to note that the same critics who bashed the movie as mean-spirited, idiotic, insulting, etc. are the same ones who have high praise for "W", "Farenheit 911", "Valley of Edam" and every other hit piece on the President and the military.
