Review of An Affair to Remember (1957) by Tina S — 09 Feb 2010
This is a very good old school romance movie. Its stars Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Grant plays a renowned bachelor and has a chance meeting on a boat cruise with Kerr's character. They hit it off and fall in love.
But Grant character is engaged to be married to another woman and Kerr has a boyfriend. So they decide after the cruise they will meet on top of the Empire State building in six months to be married and to leave their past loved ones behind and start a new life .
But an accident occurs that may cause problems to their relationship. Grant and Kerr are excellent in this. They both have great screen chemistry in this. I really enjoyed the first half of the movie.
It was funny and had great dialoouge from the two main characters. Grant character was very likable. Many funny scenes of them trying to hide their passion for each other on the cruise from others. The second half was okay but some scenes seemed to drag out at times.
But with top notch peformances from Grant and Kerr it was a great watch. Well worth a watch.
