Review of Amy (2015) by Paul B — 10 Jul 2015
A very powerful and heartbreaking portrayal of Amy Winehouse, a singer whose talent I admired greatly and wish I'd had the opportunity to see live.
Here we get a glimpse into her life and how she found solace in writing songs and it's a real eye opener to piece together the lyrics she writes with the events in the her life that shape them.
Her voice was so unique there were actual times when I had to stop myself from applauding as her back catalogue acts as the story of her life.
What you have at the heart of a story is woman who struggled with depression and eating disorders from an early age and never really got the support she needed. What went with this and her fame was the fact she surrounded herself with male figures who did not have her best interests at heart. It was Blake Fielder-Civil who garnered by biggest reaction as he was the white rabbit who lured Alice down the hole but this rabbit wore a cheap trilby and injected heroin. He was a scrote of the highest order. Although it's a sad irony that it was through her relationship with said scrote that Amy wrote her best music.
