We are so used to films which measure their own worth by the loudness of the sound and the quantity of the body count, but Asif Kapadia has produced a gut-wrenching and dramatic documentary in which the well-publicised fall free to self-destruction is beautifully accompanied by the sweet sounds of a great jazz singer.
