Review of Amusement (2008) by Brian Z — 09 May 2011
Had potential, but bad writing killed it. Why was this guy so pissed off? Cuz no one thought his sick mind was funny? It really didn't have any back story. An insane boy gets sent to a psych ward, presumably breaks out and lives in a old bed and breakfast that he makes into basically a torture chamber.
For some reason he has serious beef with these 3 girls he grew up with. Captures the girls, tortures them, and gets killed by the blonde girl. For a straight to DVD movie, the camera work was amazing, the special effects were decent, the acting was good, but the story was lacking big time.
This proves that to make a good horror/slasher film you need to work on character development, build the characters up so you care if they die or not. The killer was crazy, yes I understand that, but that isn't a logical motive to kill these girls.
If they would have showed the girls playing some life shattered prank on him or maybe teasing him mercilessly then I would understand but this movie doesn't attempt either.
