Review of Amsterdam (2022) by Jrichard1994 — 16 Oct 2022
It is a film to be watched for cinematic appeal. Amsterdam can be dry and drawn out at times in the beginning, then gets better towards the end with the climax being reached. Christian Bale always gives an outstanding performance in any of his David O’Russell films.
John David Washington and Margot Robbie compliment Bale’s performance, with Mike Myers and Michael Shannon providing some comic relief. Robert De Niro making his typical appearance in a O’Russell film that provides a critical impact to the conclusion of the film.
The film is a lot of character development but the story and script feels very robotic. At times, the dialogue is too much filling with not enough flavor. I get why some audiences might lose interest around the 1st/2nd act, but at the end, it was very engaging and you wonder how much of this dramatization of this true event is accurate.
