Review of Amour (2012) by Matt C — 19 Feb 2013
I was enthralled the entire time and never bored. Not just enthralled by the storytelling and acting but at how masterfully made it all is. It's minimalist to the extremes: it's all in an apartment, there's no score and a vast majority of the film is shot in static shots.
It's so depressing and I mean that in the most complimentary way. It's so incredibly moving and well-handled and I never within the two hours of watching this think that any behavior was theatrical or unrealistic.
I felt so different leaving the theater, and that's what movies are supposed to do. 9.5/10, amazing, two thumbs up, etc.
