Review of Amour (2012) by Richard V — 08 Mar 2013
Even if you, like me, have only watched just a few of Haneke's films, will only need about 10 minutes to recognize his work. Better still, if you, like myself, are not big fans then you're in for a surprise. I've watched four and this is by far the better one.
Haneke, is at his most unobtrusive and with that kind of script and casting, is rightly so. The two leads are the main attraction here, so much so that whenever another character drops by or passes through I felt uncomfortable. There's a sense of the macabre throughout the film and I wanna say "urban-gothic". I don't know if such a thing exists but that's what I wanna say.
I could go on but I feel I'm pushing my luck as it is. A Haneke film, is not for everyone but if you want to watch something that's intimate yet politely fully aware of your presence, then Amour will do.
