Review of Amour (2012) by Veronica P — 23 Nov 2013
I had been avoiding watching Amour for a long time, because I was not in the right mood. It really was a great film, but nothing like the unforgettable experience some people talked about. Definitely not Haneke´s best.
I was expecting a deeper scrutiny of the love. I found it to be mainly a film about death. Very interesting, but I had imagined I would see an unusual portrayal of a great love, and there was none of that.
Powerful cinematography, but I missed seeing the depth of this love. I don´t agree with the idea of old people as sexless people. I think I would have felt more involved if I had been able to fathom the depths of a passionate love, albeit in subtle gestures.
I saw the pain and the stress and the fear, but the love was just not strong enough, at least not to deserve the tilte.
