Review of Amour (2012) by Richard D — 20 Nov 2014
While the film was very slow and bleak no one can deny the beauty in its execution. With little to no music we are taken into the living and breathing moments with the characters, sometimes even as the characters.
The subject is a horrific one but one of life. There is great sorrow but also great joy in this film. I would only recommend it to certain people. The cinematography is utterly minimalist and that really excites me. The frames are treated like paintings and it sets a tone for the film that is quite something. Like a series of still lifes. The closing of the film is very very special as moments of reality and imagination shift into a very beautiful metaphor. There is a mystique to it, something wonderful.
