Review of Amores Perros (2000) by Nichole G — 29 May 2011
A relentless drama that links three harrowing stories through a car accident in the middle of Mexico City. A young man wants to escape with his brother's wife, a businessman leaves his wife and children for his mistress, and an aging hit-man tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
The imagery is exquisite and the relationship between people and their dogs is a fascinating backdrop as the human drama unfolds.
At 2 1/2 hours, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is a little guilty of not wanting to cut anything, but for a debut feature film, it's a tour de force.
"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.".
