Review of Amores Perros (2000) by Ales S — 17 Jul 2011
A powerful film about violence, love, and tragedy, AMORES PERROS both engages and thrills as Inarritu directs a large ensemble amongst three intertwining storylines with emotional flare and a consistent sense of grittiness (even the dogfights appear uncensored) - an unflinching rawness to each character and their actions and consequences that make us feel sympathetic towards them, deservedly or undeservedly so.
PERROS is a strong visual film that, although could have benefited from a tighter script and closer ties between each story, nevertheless showcases the director's talents as well as an impressive debut from actor Gael Garcia Bernal.
