Review of Amores Perros (2000) by Bryan K — 29 Dec 2013
An extremely taught script and gritty styling keep this one gripping despite being over 2.5 hours long. The use of dogs as metaphors for their owners' struggles never comes off as gimmicky or forced.
The film also has a surprisingly effective soundtrack throughout that adds to an already rich atmosphere. Perhaps the only detriment to this one comes with the absurdity that is presented during the film's third chapter; the story's protagonist is not as realistic as those around him, giving the film a lopsided feel for much of its closing.
A trip through Mexico Ci well worth taking.
