Review of Amistad (1997) by Marty S — 23 Dec 2007
Spielberg simply pulverized me with this movie. Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, and yes even McConaughey were all great (if not a little contrived for non-fictional characters). If you have trouble understanding the idea of cinematography then watch this movie, because their are dozens of shots that are simply unforgetable in their rawness and beauty.
Spielberg is a master of feeling. This movie is manipulative and powerful, to watch is to feel as with many Spielberg films (E.T., Schindler's List, A.I.). It's a shame this movie isn't more known, it's heartbreaking.
