Review of Amistad (1997) by David K — 05 Jan 2008
This is a very powerful courtroom drama dealing with various issues in American history. Djimon Hounsou is really the highlight of the film, putting his heart and soul onto the screen. It's really something to behold.
On the flipside, I think Matthew McConaughey was really the wrong choice for his part. All in all, "Amistad" is filled with Spielberg's idealisms that, I think, work better in "Schindler's List.
" That's not to say that "Amistad" is bad, it's just that "Schindler's List," which is similar in theme, is better.
