Amistad is based on a true story, the movie chronicles the incredible journey of a group of enslaved Africans that overtake their captor's ship in an attempt to return their African homeland.
The La Amistad is seized, the enslaved Africans are brought by their captives to the United States where they are charged with murder, and await their fate in prison. But a battle ensues that captures the attention of the entire nation. Challenging the foundation of the American justice system in a fight for the basic right of all mankind... freedom.
