Review of America's Sweethearts (2001) by Sean L — 28 Mar 2008
This movie has all the ingredients of a classic screwball romantic comedy. Divorcing actors, a lovestruck sister, a caustic publicity agent, and even a Prozac-taking Doberman. John Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Billy Crystal and Julia Roberts. It's a good concept, and a great cast.
Unfortunately, instead of being innocently lighthearted and fun, it descends into a mass of crude and often gross sexual jokes. The wittiness gets lost in the beneath-sophomoric sex humour, and it's a shame. This could have been really good.
