Review of American Wedding (2003) by Kevin D — 18 Apr 2010
This was a great way of ending the great American Pie trilogy, which apparently will be adding a new film with all of the original characters according to Seann William Scott. In all honesty there was no clear cut plot to this movie, but the scenes related to each other and there were two main story lines: Stifler and Finch trying to get with Alyson Hannigan's sister and Jim (Jason Biggs) and Alyson Hannigan trying to have a peaceful wedding.
Of the characters in the American Pie series, the 3 best ones are Finch, Stifler, and Jim's father (Eugene Levy). So those 3 got the most screen time, Stifler in particular. That wasn't such a bad thing since those characters tend to bring out the biggest laughs.
The funniest scene in the film involved Stifler and a ring. The next best comedy scenes were the bachelor party and a scene involving two dogs early on in the movie. Heck, even the opening scene had one of the biggest laughs.
Levy and Jason Biggs also had their fair share of uncomfortable and awkwardly hilarious scenes. Fred Willard and the actress who played his wife played Alyson Hannigan's parents and they were involved with some very funny scenes as well.
I could go on and on about the hysterical scenes in this movie, but I'd be here all day. The humor in this movie is crass and raunchy and it even had me cringing and looking away at times. That right there tells me the filmmakers did a great job.
The movie also had a lot of heart and it was nice to see characters that we've seen twice before start to grow. American Wedding is a gut-bustingly hilarious comedy.
