Review of American Wedding (2003) by Jon S — 01 Feb 2009
Despite the absence of many of the key characters from the previous films in the series, American Pie: The Wedding manages to maintain its trademark comical characteristic, whilst creating a whole new series of outrageous situations.
What works especially well with this film is how the comedy is not dependent on the dialogue itself, but from the frame by frame expressionistic comedy that never fails to place the audience into a state of hysteria.
Both Jim (Jason Biggs) and Stifler (Seann William Scott) show once again that they are adaptable to the situation that faces them in the film, and use their comfort in their role to create a shocking and very humorous depiction of a typical teen American wedding.
This film, more than the previous two tries to stay real to everyday situations, aspects of human life - weddings, family values etc that everyone thought that they knew but somehow feel that they do not know after watching the film.
American Pie: The Wedding will not only attract a loyal teen fan base, but the type of comedy that is used will also appeal to wider audiences than the previous two films, showing how collective and miscellaneous the American Pie films really can be.
