Review of American Violence (2017) by Shart F — 23 Jun 2017
I rated this a 1/5 to acknowledge the props, wardrobe, set, and gofers who put in way too many miserable hours supporting this film.
American Violence is filled with cliches and the cringy two word catch phase"tick-tock" was unbelievably stupid and embarrassing to watch. I cannot imagine the daily post-movie shame that the Eric Trump lookalike actor must feel for being the big screen delivery vessel for this cheesy cheap line. It's nothing but an attempt at showing the audience the second-by-second torture that is is most unfortunate life... like we couldn't have figured it out on our own.
Next up is the actress who played Olivia. Her pumped up roly-poly lips looked like pink wiggly grubs attached to her face and they were the only thing worse than her acting.
Charlie Sheen's ex was a fake force unto herself. Is she even an actress - I thought she was a model? Her morbid look was too much for this character and her drooping maw expression of a pained, angry widow was over-done. Perhaps, however, her downward facing dog of a mouth balances out the frozen upper half of her face. Needless to say, her good still photograpy looks don't translate well to film, and her acting was less than believable. Reading off of cue cards when on a movie set shouldn't be allowed ;).
Bruce Dern... desperate much? The only reason I watched the movie was from. seeing Bruce Dern's extraordinarily aged face on the still (Netflix). From cheeky crunching of drumstick-type of ice cream treats to blowing the timing of each and every one of his lines, Dern delivered his name only to this waste of time film. My favorite embarrassing to watch Bruce Dern moment was the sad display of a prison cell scene where he spoke to the young Mr. Trump with little conviction and even less true passion.
Overall, I'd say this movie is a flop, barely B rated, and definitely not headed towards cult status. One can only hope that none of the people involved in this monstrosity feels any sense of pride for having contributed to it. Even the set shots were amateurish, and laughable; especially the placement and abilities of the extras attempting to slow dance in the background of at least two scenes. Continuity was not great either, and the attempt to mate The Pelican Brief with Silence Of The Lambs was an utter failure.
