Review of American Ultra (2015) by Christopher C — 20 Aug 2015
I went into this film not expecting much and I was rewarded in that the film met my expectations.
Mike, Eisenberg, is a drugged out slacker that can't seem to get his life in order. The only good thing in his lice is Phoebe his girlfriend. One has to wonder why she is with this loser. It turns out that Mike is some highly trained super agent a la Jason Bourne that had his mind wiped by the CIA and he was dropped into this town for safe keeping and Phoebe was his minder agent that ultimately fell for him.
A new division chief in the CIA decides that he wants to remove Mike from life so he activates his special crew of assassins to take out stoner Mike but Mike is activated and predictable mayhem ensues.
The film is at least watchable and Stewart does a better than usual job of actually showing some emotions as Phoebe. I just don't see Eisenberg in the role of action star. In other words, if it is really hot this weekend or raining to drown a rat, this is better entertainment than watching an egg fry on the sidewalk or watching a rat drawn.
