American Ultra is a messy movie that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. With an outlandish plot the movie is built as a comedy and advertised as a comedy but it ends up being way too serious for its own good.
The comedy is flat and at times non-existent while the action scenes are bloody but lack any wow factor.
